Dhanteras is first day of the Diwali celebrations, it means worshipping wealth on 13th day (in the Krishna paksha, dark fortnight) of the month of Ashvin.Goddess Laxmi is considered as queen of wealth, so people pay their respect by Buying Jewels on this special occasion and worshipping Goddess Lakshmi and Kubera in the evening.
